Chatham-Kent Children’s Services (CKCS) strives to support the well-being of children, youth and families through a variety of unique practices and programs. Given the absence of traditional day camps and summer activities in Chatham-Kent due to the COVID-19 pandemic, CKCS, along with many other community partners has been committed to developing a creative, virtual experience for families to engage in throughout the summer months.
The Backyard Summer Camp program is supported by the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund and Chatham-Kent Community Foundations. Chatham-Kent Children’s Services has been an active member of the United Way COVID Situation Table for Youth, along with many other community partners including the Learning Disabilities Association of Chatham-Kent, the Blenheim Youth Centre, VON Kids Circle, Big Brothers Big Sisters, ACCESS Open Minds, Restorative Justice, the YMCA and Gregory Drive Alliance Church. The Backyard Summer Camp consists of a variety of virtual activities for children, youth and their families to enjoy throughout the summer months right from their own homes’.
Chatham-Kent Children’s Services, along with support from EarlyON has provided videos, activities, information and supplies geared towards the 0-6 population with a specific focus on the preschool age group (3-6 years old), while other agencies have focused on activities for the other age groups.
We are hopeful this camp will help to foster meaningful and healthy interactions between family members with a focus on enjoying time together and having fun!
